However, Albus does not want to dwell on any of these and starting from making friends with Scorpius Malfoy and getting sorted in Slytherin, Albus makes a variety of choices that would not be expected from him. He also steals the Time-Turner from the Ministry with his accomplices Scorpius and Delphi to go back in time and save Cedric Diggory, which eventually results in causing a whole host of problems. However, eventually, he helps solve all the problems and makes peace with Harry about the legacy, and they both bond as father and son.

Scorpius eventually helps Albus steal the Time-Turner, and they both try to save Cedric. However, in their second attempt, Scorpius is faced with a world ruled by Voldemort alone, as Albus isn’t even born, as Harry Potter was killed by Voldemort in this universe. They eventually set everything straight. Scorpius, too, like Albus, has issues with his father, Draco, and towards the end of the play, they try and solve it.

However, in the story of ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,’ after Amos Diggory asks Harry to go back in time using a Time-Turner and save Cedric, Albus, and Scorpius with the help of Delphi, go back in time to save Cedric. They repeatedly cast spells and insult him, hoping he won’t make it till the third task. In the first two realities, we only hear about Cedric, with him turning into a Death Eater in the second and killing Neville Longbottom. In the third alternate reality, we see Cedric in the play, and he saves Albus and Scorpius amidst the Triwizard Tournament task from Delphi.

Harry Potter is the protagonist of all the Harry Potter books and is a major character in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child‘ as well. He is the father of Albus Severus Potter, one of the protagonists of this play. Harry is married to Ginny Weasley and has two other children, James Sirius Potter and Lily Luna Potter. Harry works at the Ministry of Magic as the head of Magical Law Enforcement. He is successful in catching Theodore Nott, a former Death Eater, and confiscates his Time-Turner, which his son Albus eventually uses to change the past and prevent Cedric Diggory from getting killed. Harry undergoes a lot of difficulties in parenting his son Albus, and their relationship goes through a lot of turmoil before they manage to balance it carefully towards the end of this play.

However, Hermione is also seen in two other alternate realities within the play, where she appears very different from her original self. In one of the alternate realities, she is the professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts and is unmarried. In another, Ron is a member of the resistance alongside Snape and Hermione, fighting against Voldemort’s forces.

Draco Malfoy used to be a bully and then a Death Eater like his father, Lucius Malfoy, in the Harry Potter books. However, in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,‘ Draco’s arc is redemptive, and he is a slightly better man. Although still sometimes very accusative of Harry, Draco seems to have learned from his mistakes and eventually becomes friends with Harry and lends him the Time-Turner that belongs to the Malfoy family to save Albus and Scorpius.

Ginny Weasley used to be an important character in the Harry Potter books as well. In ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,‘ Ginny Potter (née Weasley) is the wife of Harry Potter and the editor of the Daily Prophet’s sports section. She is very supportive of Harry and is very kind to him despite his shortcomings. She is crucial in bridging the differences between Harry and Draco, which eventually leads to them becoming friendly to each other.

Rose Granger-Weasley is the daughter of Hermione and Ron. She is a close friend and cousin of Albus but soon loses this bond after Albus becomes friends with Scorpius. She is sorted into the Gryffindor house like her parents and is happy about it. However, in both of the alternate versions of reality resulting from Albus and Scorpius’s time-traveling, she is non-existent.

James Sirius Potter is the eldest son of Harry and Ginny. He is into Quidditch like his father and mother and is also very funny with him constantly teasing and scaring Albus about Hogwarts. He gets the Invisibility Cloak that Harry inherited from his father as a gift from Harry.

Lily Luna Potter is the youngest daughter of Harry and Ginny. She is younger than both James and Albus and is eventually sorted into Gryffindor some years after Albus joins Hogwarts.

Professor Minerva McGonagall used to be the Vice-Headmistress and professor of Transfiguration at Hogwarts in the Harry Potter books. She is now the Headmistress of Hogwarts. She is very kind but stern. She is supportive of Harry and Scorpius’s friendship and questions Harry when he plans to break it.

Madam Hooch is a professor at Hogwarts. She teaches flying and also referees Quidditch matches.

Amos Diggory is the father of Cedric Diggory. He is very adamant about going back in time using the Time-Turner and saving Cedric’s life and comes to Harry’s house with his niece Delphi Diggory to discuss this. However, it is later found out that he does not have a niece, and Delphi is, in fact, the daughter of Voldemort.

This happens when Harry, Hermione, Draco, Ron, and Ginny, along with Albus and Scorpius, have caught hold of Delphi but suddenly, the time for Voldemort’s arrival in Godric’s Hollow approaches. This scene shows the historically accurate version of what happened the day Harry was saved from Voldemort by his parents and Voldemort disappeared.

She eventually reveals her true identity to them and forcibly makes them accompany her to the time in which Voldemort killed Harry’s parents. She is fooled by Harry, who disguises himself as Voldemort, and is eventually defeated by Harry and his friends.

At the end of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,’ Snape is killed by Voldemort. In ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,’ Severus Snape appears in one of the alternate realities. Polly Chapman is a student at Hogwarts from Slytherin house. She is also seen in an alternate version of reality where she asks Scorpius to go to prom with her.

The Trolley Witch is an elderly wizened lady who is responsible for keeping all the students in the Hogwarts Express aboard, as is later found out. She is otherwise mainly known to be the witch who sells eatables and delicacies to students going to Hogwarts on the train.

Petunia Dursley is the aunt of Harry Potter and the sister of Harry’s mother, Lily.

Dudley Dursley is the cousin of Harry and the son of Petunia and Vernon Dursley.

Vernon Dursley is the uncle of Harry and the husband of Petunia Dursley.

Hagrid is the gamekeeper and the keeper of keys at Hogwarts. He is also a very close friend of Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

Dolores Umbridge was the undersecretary to the Minister of Magic and later even the Headmistress of Hogwarts for a short while. In ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,‘ she is only seen in an alternate reality where she is the Headmistress of Hogwarts and is in support of the Augurey, the group that is controlled by Voldemort after the death of Harry Potter in the Battle of Hogwarts.

Myrtle Warren, also known as Moaning Myrtle, was a student at Hogwarts around 80 years before the time of Albus and Scorpius’s fourth year at Hogwarts. She is currently a ghost at Hogwarts and resides in the girls’ bathroom on the second floor. She is seen in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child‘ when Harry enquires about Albus.

James Potter Sr. was the father of Harry Potter.

Lily Potter Sr. was the mother of Harry Potter.

Viktor Krum was a champion in the Triwizard Tournament from the Durmstrang school. He also went to the Yule Ball with Hermione, a reality that changed when Albus and Scorpius tried to save Cedric by insulting him during the first task.

Bane is a centaur that resides in the Forbidden Forest. He warns Harry of a dark cloud revolving around Albus, something that Harry misinterprets to be a reference to Scorpius.

Ludo Bagman was the announcer and commentator of the Triwizard Tournament tasks. In ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,‘ we see him when Albus and Scorpius go back in time.
